TRAIL REPORT

Western Upper Michigan Snowmobile Trail Reports – Lake Gogebic Trail Report, Watersmeet Trail Report, Ironwood, Bessemer, Wakefield Trail Reports

1/6/2025

The temperatures in the next few days will be in the teens, with single digits at night. Snow flurries are in the forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday. We will take any little bit we can get.
Please stay on marked trails. Riding on unmarked trails can result in the clubs losing easement for that trail.

Gogebic Range Trail Authority Groomer Report – January 5, 2025
A grooming operation is currently underway from Bessemer to Ironwood, where a snowfall of approximately four inches has been recorded. Trail 160 is accessible, but riders should exercise caution due to the presence of large rocks, and the snow cover becomes increasingly sparse as one approaches the lake. Moreover, due to the closure of the Wisconsin trail, riders must turn back. Trail 8 from Wakefield is anticipated to be groomed within the next 24 hours, while Trail 11 from Trail 8 is scheduled for grooming tomorrow or potentially tonight. An assessment of Trail 11 South is planned for tomorrow to ascertain whether the swamp has frozen sufficiently to bear the weight of the grooming machine. Additional snowfall is crucial.

Gogebic Area Groomers Report- January 4, 2025
Tonight 102 and 1n were groomed. We also had a machine run up 13n without a drag to move whatever snow around he could and knock down berms. It might not be the prettiest but we’re trying to stay ahead of everything freezing in and impossible to work with. Now, we’ll switch to the bad. There’s not much in the way of new snow in the forecast. The snow is thin, and we need a good system dumper. I guess the ugly is next. We only have 1.5 trails that are groomable. 102 and 1n. And we say 1.5 because 102 from Bergland to about halfway up towards South Boundary Rd. Is thin and not doing our drags any justice. That being said, as of now, most likely, Grooming will stop until we receive more snow. Long winded but a lot to report. Stay positive, it’s still rideable we just need more snow to groom.

U.P. Thunder Riders Trail Report- January 3, 2025
As of today, we have only gotten about 1” of snow, and it’s all fluff, so there’s nothing to help us get closer to grooming again. I think we still have some base in most areas, so when we get some real snow, we will be able to get back out there. Thanks for your patience and think snow.
